Chicago, the Windy City, is a dynamic metropolis located in the heart of the Midwest. With a population of over 2.7 million people, Chicago is the third-largest city in the United States. It is home to some of the world’s most iconic architecture, famous museums, and beautiful parks. If you’re planning on moving to Chicago, there are a few things you need to know before you pack up and make your move to Windy City.
Here are the things you should do before moving to the Windy City:
Let’s break this down point by point
Finding a trustworthy moving company should be one of your first priorities while relocating to Chicago. While there are many Chicago moving companies from which to select, not all of them provide the same quality of service. Do your homework and find the best Chicago moving company for your needs by reading reviews, talking to friends and family, and checking online resources. Try to find a company that has all the bases covered, both legally and in terms of customer satisfaction.
It’s important to think about the nature of your relocation when searching for movers in Chicago. Is this a local move, or are you relocating across the country? Long-distance moves are the specialty of some movers, while local moves are the focus of others. Choose a moving company that has handled moves similar to yours before
The expense of living there should also be taken into account. The cost of living in Chicago is greater than the national average. In particular, housing is expensive, so plan appropriately. Housing costs in larger cities might be shocking to those coming from towns
One of Chicago’s most notable features is the city’s many different neighborhoods. Think about things like public transportation options, safety, and cost while deciding on a neighborhood. Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Wicker Park, and Logan Square are just a few of the most coveted locations in all of Chicago. These areas provide a variety of housing and businesses, as well as proximity to the greatest dining and entertainment the city has to offer
The quality of the local schools should be one of your top priorities if you plan to relocate to Chicago with kids. Chicago is home to both a large public school system and a number of prestigious private institutions. Think about things like class size, curriculum, and extracurriculars when you investigate local schools.
The weather in Chicago is something to think about before making the move. The city of Chicago is notoriously windy and chilly in the wintertime. If you’re relocating from a warmer region, you should be aware that climate change will be dramatic. If you’re moving into a house or apartment during the winter, it’s important to stock up on warm winter clothes and make preparations for snow removal
Finally, settling into Chicago means becoming an active member of the local community. Chicagoans take great pride in their city’s diversity and a strong sense of community. There are many ways to make an impact on your new neighborhood through volunteer work, membership in local groups, and more.
Overall, making the move to Chicago may be an exciting one. There are, however, a number of factors worth considering before making the change. It’s important to think about things like finding reliable movers in Chicago, learning about the local cost of living, settling into a good neighborhood, and becoming active in your new community. A successful relocation depends on careful preparation.

Great experience with Hollander’s crew: Dominic R, Alex P, and Chris C. They were contracted (military move) to deliver some of our things that had been packed up and stored for a year, in a different location. They were professional and worked without complaints in the heat, placing our items carefully where I requested. They maneuvered a large, deep freezer down a tight staircase easily. They were thorough in helping me check to make sure all our things were accounted for, since it had changed locations/companies a few times before making it here. They were so helpful and courteous – I am very happy with my experience and would definitely recommend them!

The driver was the head of the crew, and he was on top of everything. He made the experience working with Hollander Moving a pleasure. We have used others before but it was our first time using Hollander. Everything turned out great.

Every employee I worked with was courteous, professional, and exceedingly competent. I was nervous about the packing and long distance move (from Illinois to New Mexico, October 2009) and Hollander helped make the move as smooth as possible. Not a thing was damaged or broken

I would recommend Hollander to any company thinking about switching vendors, and any family making a move. A Hollander rep even stopped by my new place when they were unloading just to check on things.
Wonderful service – first class!

Everything Hollander has done was over the top. It was courteous people, polite, caring. Their friendliness was over the top. There was one member of the crew who’d been a friend for 30 years, and the rest was family. I couldn’t say enough about them.

I recently moved from Chicago to Tampa and expected a few road bumps along the way but was pleasantly surprised when everything from loading to delivery was flawless. Everyone I came in contact with was very professional and knowledgable. I highly recommend Hollander Moving and Storage as they are a class act.

This move envolved packing and delivery to four different destinations. Attention to detail and coordination were vital and effectively executed by Tony R driver and his crew. Ardene did a great job coordinating everything. The entire group were both extremely pleasant and efficient.
